Dusk in Yosemite

Oh my, was that glorious! Important Safety Tip: Do NOT try to leave Yosemite AFTER sunset. 7000 feet may not sound like much, but let me tell you descending in pitch black down an extreme switchback is not for the faint of heart (I went up this road in daylight last July, so I KNEW what would happen if I missed a curve. I crawled down in second gear. Then to top it off, my sense of direction failed me and the highway signs in California leave something to be desired. Next thing I knew I was back at 5000 feet in Sonora heading for the pass in the Sierra. (I was trying to get to Sacramento.) Stopped in a biker bar which was full of (duh!) bikers. Rather rough looking bunch that were actually very nice guys, and most of their tatoos appeared to be spelled correctly. I asked just how the heck do I get off this mountain? I got reliable instructions and eventually got to Sacramento. Spent a lovely day with granddaughter Ava, son Will and Sue. Oh well, wonderful weekend.

Casey Strikes Out...

My poor Cardinals!
I'm in mourning.

Albert for President!

You can take the boy out of St. Louis, but you can't take the Cardinals out of the boy...

Albert Pujols' homerun for the Cardinals last night with two out out in the ninth was just what I needed to get out of my funk!

What a shot!

Writer's Bloc?

I got a comment from one of my favorite bloggers, and I realized just how long it has been since I posted anything.

Is it that I have nothing to say? Is it that I'm in a low grade depression and "numb?" Am I just not paying attention to what is going on around me and therefore have no comment?

Hell, I don't know.

I had been hoping to go up to Sacramento and see my granddaughter this weekend. But the new bankruptcy law takes effect tomorrow (Monday) and our office was like H&R block on April 14th. Having to pass on the trip disappointed me though the business is more than welcome.

Tonight I'm going to walk up on the hills behind the house, the old Fort Ord, and try to catch a sunset. I'll take the 35mm and the digital and maybe dress up this old blog a bit. The sun on Toro Mountain at that time of day is really dramatic, particulalrly if there any clouds and the beginnings of a fog bank. The shadows and the colors: gold, orange, red, blue and purple, are just a wonder. The light is something out of a Renaissance painting.

Speaking of weather things, it rained here Friday night. It was a harbinger of things to come. Winter is on its way to the Central Coast.

Well, I wrote a lot about not having anything to write about. I need to create some fresh material for myself. (Unlike Kitty, I don't have a little guy perpetually providing subject matter.) For
the moment, I'll do chores and await the dusk.

Here's a little something from the Central Coast to provide a bit of color.

Thunderbirds! Bart is Content...

10.02.2005

Sunday Morning

Friday and Saturday we celebrated Christine’s 90th birthday. We went to a lovely restaurant on the wharf in Monterey. Christine seemed a bit confused about it all, but there were balloons, a wonderful dinner (mine was swordfish with pesto!) and birthday cheesecake. A wonderful time.

Anita put on an open-house for Christine yesterday. It was just lovely. Christine seemed tickled.

Today it is off to the airshow. The Thunderbirds are performing. Bart, my “inner child” is just delighted.

So many things going on which have me spinning. Often this leads to me to do nothing which is not a particularly good characteristic. It is a function of being overwhelmed.

One thing at a time. If I think of all that is going on and dwell on that, nothing gets done. I just want to go to bed and pull the covers over my head.

Time to make lists and check the items off one at a time.

But for now, we'll go to the airshow and have a good time.
