The Fog That Ate San Francisco

I was sitting high up in the gun batteries of The Presidio overlooking The Golden Gate, I waited for, in the words of the Firesign Theater (does that date me or what?) the afternoon miracle. "Here it comes, Myrtle!" And then the fog rolls into the Bay. First under the bridge, then engulfing it. It inches up the cliff upon which I am perched. Soon visibility is down to a hundred feet or less. God I love it so!

That is so beautiful. Like Sidney said, I would've thought it was a wave with no description.

Great capture of a natural phenomenon! Is it natural or smog related?

Smog????!!!! We in NoCal (Northern California) don't DO SMOG. That's for the riffraff south of Santa Barbara :)

Seriously, it's plane old fog.

The fog is especially thick in the summer months. That leads to some cold weather in June and July. Mark Twain famously said, "The worst winter I ever spent was summer in San Francisco."

The tree and the fog rolling in give such a eerie feel to this photograph.

That is soooo San Francisco. I remember being at the top of the Bank of America building (is it still called that?) one evening and the fog rolled in right under us. We watched the sunset over the bay and couldn't see a thing below us. it was amazing.
