A Pasture with a View - Above the Salinas Valley
Took lunch hour today and went to the other side of the Salinas Valley to the foothills of the Gabilan Mountains on San Juan Grade.
Packing my trusty Fuji digital, hit a full zoom at 300mm and watched these cows with their faces down in the grass chewing away. So, I hollered "Moo!" at them. Sure enough they looked over at the weird looking two legged cow and I shot the pic.
Here they are before zooming.

Lovely picture !
What a GREAT way to spend lunch! This is just wonderful.
Fantastic shots, John, worth framing.
I love the cows! You are lucky to be able to go out at lunch and find such beauty all around.
I watched the video of the airshow and I have to say it brought back some fond memories for me. My dad was Airforce during WWII and he loved to take us to see the airshows at Willow Grove Naval Air Station near his home in PA.
He and my oldest son were best friends and loved the airshows. My dad died when my oldest son was just 7 1/2, his little brother was just 2, and my youngest was not born yet. He died only a few months before the airshow was scheduled. We went to the airshow anyway but it just wasn't the same. So we just never went again.
Now my son is all grown up, nearly 21, and in aviation in the Army. He is training to fly UAV's (unmanned aerial vehicles) but has his sights set on flying a-10's (I think) at some point in his career. Its always been his dream to follow in his grandpa's steps.
What a great way to spend your lunch! Love the looks on their faces! You sure did grab their attention.
Well...I'm jealous of your zoom. Did you have to use a tripod on that? I think I remember you saying that you always carried your tripod with you. Anyway, it's a wonderful picture.
Now I know why you purchased that massive lens. Great job, John. Very peaceful.
Neat pasture scene! And cows often are curious creatures. The way they watched me in the past sometimes felt a little strange.
Tena koe ehoa
A wonderful lunchtime story MJ. Now you weren't eating any of their cousins for lunch were you? Just kidding with ya' :)
Cows will often have these wonderful incredulous looks on the faces when anything that doesn't look like them roams into their domain.
