More Yosemite

El Capitan is perhaps the best known feature in Yosemite. It was carved out by the glaciers in one of the ice ages. It rises 700 feet or so above the floor of the valley and the Merced River.

The river has its source here in the valley. Numerous streams flow over the cliffs formed by the ice. Some of the scenes, such as the one below at the foot of Bridal Veil Falls, are lovely rock strewn streams that eventually combine into the river itself which drops nearly 4,000 feet to the Central Valley of California.
