Connecting with Old Friends

Rainy season is finally here in all its glory. Yesterday was cold and wet. I spent most of the day trying to figure out how to shake the bone chill.

This season also is the beginning of what the rest of the world considers to be Spring. The "golden" hills will soon be as green as those of Ireland. On sunny days, there is nothing quite as beautiful as this place in winter.

But on days like yesterday, it was cold, dark and wet.

It was a good day to reconnect with old friends.

Last night I found myself writing a long e-mail to an old friend, lady friend, back in Missouri. She's really a neat gal though we used to fight like cats and dogs. But we also shared a lot together. She mentioned that we all need a "witness to our lives," a line she heard in a movie recently. For several years we were witnesses to one another's lives.

That thought was with me when I woke up this morning.

It is likely going to rain again today. But somehow it will be a bit brighter for having connected with this old friend even if at only a distance. It's like having a "witness to my life," someone to share random thoughts, experiences and day-today "stuff."

Summer Comes to Big Sur... Really! (A Pretty Nice Video Linked at Google)

As most folks know, when it's warm elsewhere in America, it's lousy here. As Mark Twain said, "The worst winter I ever spent was summer in San Francisco." Same is true here 100 miles south of San Francisco.

Then, as the rest of America, particularly my old home Mazurah (aka Missouri) is eagerly anticipating their first ice storm of a long ice storm prone season, we go into our primo weather. It was 87 degrees today and filled with golden fall sunshine. Urahhhhh California!

So, at 5:30 this morning Anita and I made the 35 mile treck down to Point Sur to catch the sunrise. The overlook 300 feet or so above the sea just south of Bixby Bridge is usually freezing with freezing winds from the ocean you could swear were going to blow you over the edge and into the Pacific. Not so this morning. Even at that hour it was about seventy degrees with a gentle easterly wind bringing in warm dry air from the interior of the state. It was glorious.

So, we spent the next four hours documenting the birth of a new day.

You can see what we saw... and eat your hearts out!

A Fine Blog

The blog I just added to my blogroll, Inchorent Ramblings, is that of a young female soldier serving in Kosovo. She stands for everything I think is good about young Americans and she has a lot to say. She also is talented and her artwork is first rate.

I hope everyone will take the time to visit her blog.

A New Life - Ava Joins the Wilson Family - Her First Video

Ok, the video of Ava is up, click here.

She is such a doll. I am so grateful to be here in California for her arrival and to see her grow up. Welcome to the world little one. God bless you.

Thanks to my son Will for the video and, most especially, for Ava.
